Fiji Airports has entered into a partnership with COX Architecture Pty Ltd to develop a comprehensive landslide master plan for the Nadi and Nausori Airports. This Australian architectural firm was selected after a rigorous tender process showcased its expertise in similar large-scale projects, including its recent work on the Western Sydney International Airport.
Fiji Airports’ chief executive, Mesake Nawari, expressed confidence in COX’s capability, citing its involvement in significant infrastructure developments at global airports such as Changi Airport in Singapore and Sydney International Airport. COX is expected to complete the master plan within 32 weeks.
This initiative is an important step forward following the updated Airside master plan presentation to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka last month. The new landslide master plan will complement the endorsed Nadi Airport airside master plan for 2024-2048, which aims to enhance both aeronautical and non-aeronautical aspects of airport operations.
Nawari highlighted the plan’s potential to drive diversification and strengthen Fiji’s position as an aviation leader and tourist destination, emphasizing the airport’s role in connecting global markets and cultures. With 18 early works projects already underway at Nadi Airport and extensive upgrades planned, Fiji Airports is poised for a transformative decade ahead.
As part of these enhancements, the upcoming developments include upgrading facilities, constructing a new domestic terminal, expanding car parking, and introducing modern aerobridges. This ambitious agenda reflects Fiji Airports’ commitment to redefining air travel experiences and bolstering business opportunities in the region.
In summary, this development represents a strategic investment in Fiji’s future as a leading aviation hub, promising growth and improvement that can benefit both the local economy and international travelers. The collaboration with COX Architecture signals a new chapter in the evolution of Fiji’s airport infrastructure, paving the way for enhanced passenger experiences and increased operational efficiency.
