Fiji Airports appoints two leaders to boost safety and maintenance

Fiji Airports is enhancing its commitment to safety, operational excellence, and technical readiness with the recent appointments of two vital leaders within its national airport network. William Tamata has been appointed as the Manager of Electrical & Mechanical Services, while Alisi Bulamaibau has been promoted to the role of Aerodrome Maintenance Engineer at Nadi International Airport.

William Tamata, who has over 15 years of electrical engineering experience across Fiji, the United Kingdom, and Europe, joins the leadership team with a wealth of knowledge. His past roles include overseeing critical airfield electrical systems at major international airports, such as Heathrow and Gatwick, as well as various facilities within the Manchester Airport Group. Tamata’s return to Fiji Airports is especially meaningful for him; he grew up in the Fiji Airports compound where his father worked as a technician and Station Officer in Nausori Airport’s Electrical Department. Previously, he also contributed to Fiji Airports between 2009 and 2017, where he was mentored by Waqa Taukei, the current Senior Manager Projects (Renewable Energy).

Mesake Nawari, the CEO of Fiji Airports, emphasized that Tamata’s appointment underscores the organization’s strategy of nurturing leaders who integrate global expertise with local knowledge. He stated, “William’s story is one of legacy, leadership, and loyalty. We are proud to welcome him back to lead a critical technical function and inspire future aviation professionals.”

Tamata brings academic credentials that include a Bachelor of Engineering Technology from the University of the South Pacific and a Master of Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney. He is also a former head boy of Lelean Memorial School and an alumnus of the ICAO-ROK Airport Lighting and Management fellowship, facilitated by the Korea Airports Corporation. He is a family man, married with two sons.

In her new position, Alisi Bulamaibau will manage a team dedicated to inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and certifying essential aerodrome infrastructure in compliance with standards mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). With nearly a decade of experience and a background in civil engineering, Bulamaibau sees her new role as the realization of a lifelong dream.

She expressed pride in being a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, stating, “It brings diversity and shows other young women that they can succeed here too.”

Fiji Airports firmly believes that these appointments are in line with its long-term vision of establishing a world-class aviation hub for the Blue Pacific, driven by strong leadership and a empowered local workforce. As the organization continues to evolve, the contributions of its newly appointed leaders are expected to advance its goals, promoting innovation and inspiring future generations in aviation.
