Fiji Airports and ITP Renewables Join Forces for Solar Project

Fiji Airports has entered into an agreement with ITP Renewables Australia to commence the first phase of the solar farm project at Nadi International Airport. This partnership was formalized on Friday, August 2.

Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari, stated that this contract represents a significant step forward for the solar farm initiative. Nawari highlighted that the contract is focused on consultancy services, enabling ITP Renewables to begin the design of the solar farm. He emphasized that the project aligns with the company’s aim to be a leader in the aviation sector in Fiji and the region, particularly in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability.

Nawari explained that this contract marks the initial stage in achieving Fiji Airports’ goal of generating 3.5 megawatts of clean power within the airport premises through the solar farm. He acknowledged this effort as crucial for advancing the airport’s standing in the Airport Council International Green Airport initiative, putting it on par with leading international airports.

Furthermore, Nawari noted that the project represents a significant milestone for Fiji Airports and presents valuable learning opportunities that can be shared with other airports in the Blue Pacific region striving for sustainability.

The initiation of the solar farm design aligns with Fiji Airports’ commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and enhancing environmental sustainability. Nawari expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the solar farm is no longer just a vision but is now in progress. He reaffirmed Fiji Airports’ dedication to a net zero carbon footprint, positioning it as a pioneer in the global movement toward zero carbon emissions for airports.

This collaboration with ITP Renewables Australia underscores Fiji Airports’ commitment to renewable energy solutions and its role as a leading force in the aviation industry’s sustainable energy efforts.
