Fiji Airline Maintenance Certificate Expires Amid Safety Review

The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) has announced that a domestic airline’s Aircraft Maintenance Organisation Certificate has expired as of midnight on November 22 and has not been renewed. This certificate, which is governed by the Air Navigation Regulations Part 145C, is crucial for ensuring the safety and maintenance of aircraft.

The decision was reached after a comprehensive regulatory review by CAAF, which identified persistent safety concerns that the airline failed to address. The safety of travelers within Fiji is of utmost importance to the government, which views the aviation sector as a vital link for connectivity among the islands, supporting both tourism and the aspirations of families investing in aviation training.

Officials recognize that the expiration of the certificate will have a significant impact on maintenance operations and training programs, as well as other areas within the airline’s operations. However, CAAF emphasizes that adherence to safety regulations cannot be compromised for the sake of convenience in commercial operations.

The decision was made based on substantial evidence, aligning with CAAF’s legal responsibilities and dedication to safeguarding passengers, trainee pilots, and the public at large. Adhering strictly to safety standards is paramount for maintaining public confidence and sustaining Fiji’s reputation as a trustworthy aviation hub in the Pacific region.

CAAF has expressed its willingness to consider a full corrective action plan from the airline in question, with the possibility of issuing a future license contingent upon resolving and rectifying all identified issues in accordance with legal compliance.

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has reiterated its support for CAAF’s autonomy in making safety-related decisions and will not intervene in this process. They will continue to collaborate with CAAF and industry stakeholders to manage any operational disruptions that may arise and ensure the aviation sector remains stable.

Fiji’s commitment to safety, the continuity of aviation training, and fostering confidence in the tourism and aviation industries remains strong. The government is determined to prioritize public safety in all aspects of aviation operations.
