Fiji’s recent participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 and the 15th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) General Assembly highlighted the nation’s urgent call for increased financing and investment in renewable energy. Minister for Public Works and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized the critical need for funding solar energy initiatives, particularly solar water pumping projects aimed at rural areas, including schools and health centers.

During his address at the event, Tuisawau pushed for stronger international support recognizing the unique challenges faced by Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), such as the severe impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels and the escalating frequency of cyclones and floods. His remarks resonated with Fiji’s long-term goals of achieving over 90% of its electricity generation from renewable sources by 2030 and striving for net-zero emissions by 2050.
