The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change recently convened the fourth meeting of the Blue Prosperity Fiji Taskforce, an initiative aimed at enhancing ocean governance and assisting the Fijian government in meeting its commitments to sustainable ocean practices.
During this significant meeting, the members deliberated on the forthcoming stages of the national Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) efforts, which are essential for the strategic management of Fiji’s marine resources. Dr. Sivendra Michael, the Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the progress made thus far and outlined the next steps for implementing Fiji’s National Marine Spatial Plan.
This national framework is designed to facilitate the sustainable use, protection, and management of Fiji’s marine resources, while also fostering better coordination among government agencies. The Blue Prosperity Fiji Taskforce plays a vital role in ensuring that Fiji’s marine assets are preserved. Chaired by the Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Taskforce’s collaborative efforts underscore the nation’s commitment to protecting its rich marine environment.
