Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) has officially introduced its Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, a significant advancement in the treatment of chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The launch event, which took place in Nadi, was spearheaded by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.
The newly opened Hyperbaric Chamber, operating around the clock, aims to enhance recovery rates and dramatically decrease the necessity for amputations in Fiji, a pressing issue given the high incidence of diabetes-related complications in the country. Professor Prasad highlighted the alarming statistic of one amputation occurring every 12 hours and stressed the need for innovative solutions to combat this trend.
He noted that the introduction of HBOT not only seeks to benefit the local population but also aims to attract patients from other Pacific Island nations, positioning Fiji as a leading healthcare provider in the region. This treatment is expected to shorten recovery periods and yield better results for patients, ultimately contributing to improved community health outcomes.
The launch also featured the announcement of the Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program, which provides discounts on healthcare services for active cane growers in Fiji. This initiative reflects PSH’s dedication to supporting the sugar farming community, ensuring that farmers can access affordable healthcare services.
Professor Prasad reinforced the government’s commitment to modernizing Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure through significant projects, including a 100-bed super-specialty hospital funded by the Indian Government and enhancements to CWM Hospital. He reiterated that healthcare remains a crucial component of the government’s development priorities.
With the introduction of HBOT and the SCGF Loyalty Program, PSH is solidifying its position as a leader in healthcare innovation, improving access to state-of-the-art treatments, and supporting the health of Fiji’s citizens.
This development brings hope not only to local residents but also to those from neighboring islands who seek quality healthcare, fostering a brighter future for public health in the region.
