Fiji secured their place in the quarterfinals of the HSBC Dubai 7s by defeating the USA with a score of 42-20 in their second pool match.

The South Sea Islanders showed marked improvement to clinch a vital victory ahead of their final pool encounter against New Zealand. After withstanding an initial offensive push from the USA, Fiji gained momentum and established a 21-10 lead by halftime.

The match began with USA’s Lucas Lacamp scoring the first unconverted try. However, Fiji quickly retaliated with three consecutive tries from Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Filipe Sauturaga, and Joji Nasova, with Sauturaga successfully converting all three attempts. Joji Nasova then secured his second try nine minutes into the match, countering an effort from USA’s David Still.

USA’s Faitala Talapusi made an impressive play, breaking through multiple tackles to score, but this was soon overshadowed by Fiji’s Iowane Teba, who scored twice to extend their lead. USA managed to score a final try after the match’s conclusion through Jack Wendling, but it was too late to impact the game’s outcome.

The second half saw additional tries scored by Nasova, Teba, and Terio Veilawa, along with successful conversions, rounding out a dominant performance by Fiji.

This triumph exemplifies Fiji’s resilience and skill, indicating a promising trajectory as they prepare for challenging matches ahead. Their strong teamwork and strategic plays could very well lead them further in the tournament, inspiring hope among their supporters.
