The recent performances of the Fiji Airways men’s and women’s 7s teams at the LA 7s, part of the HSBC SVNS Series, yielded mixed results as they faced Great Britain. The men’s team fell short in the seventh place play-off, losing 19-31, while the Fijiana secured a commendable fifth place with a 46-14 victory in their match.
In the men’s match, Fiji struggled against Great Britain, who maintained a substantial lead with 26-7 at halftime. Despite tries from Joji Nasova, Terio Veilawa, and Isikeli Basiyalo, Fiji was unable to close the gap, with Great Britain capitalizing on their scoring opportunities.
Conversely, the Fijiana team displayed a powerful performance, dominating their play-off match against Great Britain. By halftime, they had a solid lead of 29-7, thanks to tries from Silika Qalo, Vika Nakacia, Verenaisi Ditavutu, Sesenieli Donu, and Mere Vocevoce. The successful conversion kicks from Lavena Cavuru and Kelerayani Luvu further solidified their advantage.
Both teams’ placements in the top eight allowed them to qualify for the LA 7s, marking the end of the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS Series, with the men’s team finishing second overall after accumulating 96 points throughout various tournaments. The Fijiana concluded the series in seventh with 46 points to their name.
