Fiji 7s Teams Return Home: Celebrations and Rewards Await!

The members of the Fiji Men’s 7s team will receive rewards for their performance, according to Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru. Both the men’s and women’s 7s teams returned to Fiji today after participating in the Paris Olympics. However, they will have to wait for their rewards until the other Team Fiji athletes arrive back from the Olympics.

The Fiji Rugby Union and the Government are organizing a national celebration to honor the men’s team, which brought home a silver medal. This morning, both teams were warmly welcomed at Nadi International Airport by families, friends, and relatives upon their return from Paris.

Additionally, a traditional ceremony was held at the Tanoa International Hotel in their honor. Team captain Jerry Tuwai expressed disappointment in securing a silver medal instead of gold. He is anticipated to announce his retirement soon and highlighted that, despite not claiming the top prize, the team has set a positive example for younger athletes and future Olympic contenders.

During the welcome speech, Minister Jese Saukuru commended the efforts of both teams and reiterated that all members of the Men’s 7s team would be rewarded for their achievements. The players are now set to take a well-deserved break before gearing up for the upcoming HSBC Sevens Series season.
