Fiji 7s Team’s Olympic Silver: A Journey of Resilience and Inspiration!

Fiji Men’s 7s captain Jerry Tuwai expressed that the performances displayed by both teams at the 2024 Paris Olympics could serve as a source of inspiration for the nation and young athletes aspiring to represent Fiji. His remarks came during a welcoming ceremony for the men’s and women’s teams held on August 4, 2024, organized by the Fiji Rugby Union at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.

Despite the team’s performance not meeting the expectations of many, Tuwai emphasized their resilience and potential to come back stronger. He began by thanking God for their safety and guidance during their month of preparation for the Olympics and their return.

Tuwai acknowledged the support from coaches, management, and supporters, expressing gratitude towards families and loved ones for their encouragement throughout the journey. He apologized for not bringing home the desired medal, acknowledging the high expectations placed on the team.

Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru commended both the Fiji 7s and Fijiana 7s teams for their achievements and recognized the coaches and management for their essential roles in the tournament. He particularly highlighted the continuous support from Mr. Osea Kolonisau and his family.

Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board interim chairman Peter Mazey celebrated the teams’ extraordinary accomplishments, which instilled immense pride in the nation. He praised the team’s spirit and tenacity, noting that their performance at the Olympics not only represented Fiji but also inspired a future generation of athletes.

Mazey expressed heartfelt gratitude for their silver medal achievement at the 2024 Olympic Games, emphasizing that the effort and dedication of the players and support staff have not gone unnoticed. He reminded everyone that the silver medal symbolizes the hard work and sacrifices made during their preparation.
