The selection of the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team for the upcoming HSBC Perth 7s tournament will take place next weekend, just after the conclusion of the Coral Coast 7s tournament in Sigatoka. Head coach Osea Kolinisau has emphasized that no player has guaranteed a spot on the team, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection process.

During a training session at Bidesi Park in Suva, Kolinisau stated that every player, including those playing for Mike Friday’s team, will be evaluated. He pointed out that as they prepare to travel to Perth the Monday following the Coral Coast 7s, the focus will be on fitness and performance, particularly in defense during crucial game moments.

Kolinisau expressed the need for players to communicate effectively, maintain their spacing, and make sound decisions in the closing seconds of matches. He stressed that players must adhere to their training standards even when fatigued.

Notably, players set to compete for Friday’s Select 7s team include Lasaro Bogisa, Manueli Maisamoa, Iowane Teba, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Pilipo Bukayaro, Rauto Vakadranu, Ilikimi Torosi, and Jerry Tuwai. The Fiji 7s team will feature additional squad members as they prepare for the tournament.

Fiji is placed in pool MA with strong competition against New Zealand 7s 2, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers. The Coral Coast 7s is slated to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park.

This competitive environment fosters a spirit of resilience and teamwork, showcasing the dedication and commitment of the players aspiring to represent Fiji on the international stage. With thorough preparation and emphasis on communication, the team is geared up to have a positive impact in the upcoming tournament.
