The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team for the upcoming HSBC Perth 7s tournament will be finalized next weekend, following the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament in Sigatoka. Head coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized that every player remains in contention for a spot on the final team, leaving no guarantees for anyone participating, including those in Mike Friday’s Select 7s team.

Kolinisau noted that the team will be selected after the Coral Coast 7s, which is set for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park. The squad’s fitness and tactical performance will be key deciding factors, particularly focusing on improvements in defensive strategies during critical moments of the game.

“We want to ensure effective communication, spacing, and decision-making in the last 30 seconds of matches,” Kolinisau explained. He stressed the importance of maintaining high standards, even when players are fatigued, to adhere to the established processes.

The players confirmed for Friday’s Select 7s team include notable names like Lasaro Bogisa, Manueli Maisamoa, and Jerry Tuwai, among others. Fiji has been placed in Pool MA, competing against New Zealand 7s 2, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers.

This rigorous selection process underscores Fiji’s commitment to excellence in rugby and sets the stage for an exciting tournament. Fans can look forward to witnessing the athletes’ hard work and dedication as they strive for a coveted spot in the national team.

Ultimately, this weekend’s Coral Coast 7s tournament offers a valuable opportunity for players to showcase their skills, motivate one another, and perhaps secure their chances for international competition.
