The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team has returned to training this week after a holiday break, and head coach Osea Kolinisau is pleased with the mental toughness exhibited by the athletes. The team resumed their activities on Monday, aiming to build upon their performance from the initial two rounds of the 2024/25 World Sevens Series held in Dubai and Cape Town.

Prioritizing fitness, Kolinisau implemented a rigorous training regimen over the past two days, which the players embraced. “It’s not easy to go through the last set of fitness run after going through a couple of intense three-two minutes blocks, but I was happy with the intensity they showed,” Kolinisau shared during a training session at Bidesi Ground in Suva.

The coach emphasized that while the players had a successful break, there was a need to sharpen their focus on the tasks ahead. He noted some players appeared slightly out of touch with the team’s processes. “We’re a little bit rusty coming back. I told the boys, some of you guys went and forgot a little of our processes,” he added. The focus of the first few training days has been to refine their defensive structure and ensure each player understands their responsibilities.

With only Iowane Teba absent, the squad is fully present for practice sessions as they prepare for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s. The team will be split into two groups, with eight players joining Mike Friday’s Select 7s team while the remainder will compete for the main Fiji 7s side.

This week’s training reflects the resilience and commitment of the Fiji 7s team as they strive for excellence in the upcoming tournaments. The renewed focus on fitness and tactical execution could pave the way for an exciting season ahead.

In summary, the Fiji men’s 7s team is making a strong comeback post-holiday, with a determination to sharpen their skills and enhance their performance for the upcoming competitions. Kolinisau’s leadership and the players’ commitment signal a promising outlook for the season.
