The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team is gearing up for the Perth 7s tournament in Australia, with only a few weeks to prepare after the Christmas break. Currently, the team is enjoying some downtime to celebrate the festive season with family.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau has reminded the players of the urgency in their preparation, emphasizing the importance of keeping a broad perspective in mind. He urges them to remain focused, as the time to train is limited.

Captain Jeremaia Matana echoed Kolinisau’s sentiments, highlighting the high expectations set for each player. After returning from Cape Town, he noted, “Each player in the team knows the standards set by the coach. He has given us the freedom of choice, but upon returning to training, we must remember that performance will reflect our commitment, and complacency is not an option.”

Kolinisau has stressed the necessity of consistency, reminding his players that sacrifices are often required to achieve the desired results.

In their recent outings, Fiji’s sevens team has seen success, bringing home a Cup and gold medal from Dubai, along with a bronze from the Cape Town tournament. They currently lead the overall series table with 36 points.

The second leg of the HSBC SVNS Series will kick off with the Perth 7s from January 24 to 26, presenting an exciting challenge for the squad to build on their recent successes.

This upcoming tournament provides a fantastic opportunity for the Fiji men’s sevens team to showcase their skills and determination on the world stage. With a strong foundation built from their recent achievements, they are positioned to make a significant impact at the Perth 7s.
