The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team is gearing up for an intense training session following the holiday season, with less than four weeks to prepare for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament in Australia. Currently on a festive break, players, coaches, and management are enjoying time with their families.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau is emphasizing the importance of keeping the big picture in mind despite the short turnaround time. “My advice to the players is just to have a bigger picture in mind and remember that we have a short turnaround,” he stated. Captain Jeremaia Matana echoed this sentiment by highlighting the high standards Kolinisau has established for the team. He noted that upon returning from their tournament in Cape Town, each player is aware of these expectations and must put in the effort during training, as “the numbers won’t lie.”
Kolinisau also stressed the need for consistency and the occasional sacrifices necessary to achieve the desired results. The Fiji 7s team has shown promising performance recently, clinching a Cup and gold medal in Dubai as well as a bronze in Cape Town, placing them at the top of the series standings with 36 points.
The second leg of the HSBC SVNS Series will kick off with the Perth 7s from January 24-26, providing the team with an opportunity to build on their recent successes.
As the Fiji 7s team heads into the new year, they are not only motivated by their recent achievements but also by their commitment to excellence as they face future challenges. This spirit of togetherness and dedication sets a hopeful tone for their preparations and performance in Perth.
