Osea Kolinisau, the head coach of Fiji’s rugby sevens team, is resolutely focused on positioning his squad for a strong performance as the HSBC SVNS Series prepares to resume. Following their impressive gold medal achievement at the Dubai 7s, the team faced challenges in Cape Town, where they ultimately secured a bronze medal. Kolinisau noted that the team seemed to lose concentration toward the end of the second tournament.

He mentioned, “We want to get our processes right when we are getting tired.” Specifically, he pointed out the last 30 seconds of the Cape Town match, indicating a breakdown in communication and spacing among players which contributed to the outcome.

Expressing enthusiasm about returning to training for the first time this year, Kolinisau acknowledged that the team is working to shake off the rust. “It wasn’t full-on contact. It was just about getting our processes back,” he explained.

The team is now gearing up for the upcoming Coral Coast Sevens event, with their eyes set on the next leg of the SVNS Series in Perth scheduled for January 24-26.

In summary, the Fiji 7s team is taking proactive steps to refine their performance and strategies, emphasizing the importance of communication and teamwork, especially under pressure. With focused training and a clear plan ahead, there is plenty of potential for the team to showcase their skills and make a mark on the global stage in the upcoming tournaments. This determination and commitment to improvement give hope that the Fiji 7s team will achieve even greater successes in the near future.
