The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is striving to shed the negative label of being undisciplined as it prepares for the upcoming HSBC SVNS series. This introspection follows a series of disciplinary issues noted during the first two legs held in Dubai and Cape Town last year. Head coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized the importance of addressing these mistakes, especially with heightened competition in the series.
Kolinisau highlighted the significance of discipline in rugby, stressing that the team does not wish to be associated with such a reputation in light of the new series format that features eight elite teams. “That’s something we talked about with the boys; we don’t want the tag of being an undisciplined side,” he stated, underscoring the challenges of maintaining composure on the field.
In his remarks, Kolinisau pointed out that being a player down—notably if the team finds itself with only six on the field—could provide a critical advantage to opponents, making it essential for Fiji to maintain its full squad and minimize mistakes. As the men’s 7s side gears up for the intense competition ahead, the focus remains on promoting discipline as a fundamental aspect of their game strategy.
With their sights set on improvement, the Fiji team hopes to demonstrate better discipline in the upcoming matches, ensuring they compete at their highest level and avoid giving rivals any opportunities for an upper hand.
