Fiji 7s Stunned by Argentina: What Went Wrong?

The Fiji 7s rugby team faced a tough defeat against Argentina, losing 35-7 during their final pool match of the HSBC Hong Kong SVNS. Argentina exhibited a dominant performance, successfully minimizing Fiji’s possession throughout the match, which was evident as they took a commanding 21-0 lead by halftime.

The first try came early in the match from Matteo Graziano in the third minute, followed by a quick score from Luciano Gonzalez just two minutes later. Graziano added another try before halftime, solidifying Argentina’s control. Following the break, Santiago Mare further extended the lead, and Santiago Zangara scored the final try for the Pumas to cap off their victory. Fiji managed to score their only try of the match courtesy of Joji Nasova, with Sakiusa Siqila converting it.

This match starkly contrasts with the previous encounter where Fiji triumphed over Argentina 43-21 in the HSBC Dubai 7s, showcasing their ability to outperform their opponents significantly. In that match, Fiji demonstrated a solid defense and an efficient scoring ability, completing seven tries compared to Argentina’s three.

Despite this recent setback, there is potential for Fiji to regroup and refine their strategies. Their ability to bounce back from defeats has previously been evident in their strong displays, and many fans remain hopeful for their upcoming performances.

As they advance, the Fiji 7s team is urged to learn from this loss, focusing on teamwork and possession to reclaim their confidence and aim for victory in future matches.
