Eight members of the Fiji 7s team are set to compete for the Mike Friday Select squad during the upcoming 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s in Sigatoka this month. Coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized that this tournament presents a valuable opportunity for these players to impress selectors, with other team members participating as well.
The selected players will share the field with renowned athletes including double Olympic gold medalist Jerry Tuwai, South Africa’s Rosko Specman, USA’s Matai Leuta, Welsh standout Luke Treharne, Irish star Harry McNulty, and the emerging French talent Alexandre Odinga. Kolinisau has also announced that players who have recently experienced significant playing time will be given a break during the Coral Coast 7s, allowing newer talents to shine.
Despite a challenging season, Kolinisau noted that no injuries occurred during the Dubai and Cape Town 7s events. However, some players faced minor issues during the Oceania 7s and have been allocated two weeks to recover and recharge.
The Coral Coast 7s tournament is scheduled to take place at Lawaqa Park from January 16 to 18, promising an exciting showcase of rugby talent.
