Eight members of the Fiji 7s team are set to participate in the Mike Friday Select team during the upcoming 2025 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, scheduled to take place in Sigatoka this month. Coach Osea Kolinisau has indicated that this tournament will provide these players with a valuable opportunity to impress selectors, while other members of the squad will represent the national team.
Joining the Fiji players will be notable international stars, including double Olympic gold medalist Jerry Tuwai, Rosko Specman from South Africa, Matai Leuta from the USA, Welsh rugby legend Luke Treharne, Irish standout Harry McNulty, and emerging French talent Alexandre Odinga. This diverse mix of athletes will add excitement to the tournament and present a great platform for showcasing skills.
Kolinisau has also announced that players who have recently had significant playing time will be rested for the Coral Coast 7s, enabling others to demonstrate their abilities and earn their place within the team. The 2016 Olympic gold medal-winning captain noted that while no injuries occurred during recent events in Dubai and Cape Town, some players experienced minor issues during the Oceania 7s and have been granted a two-week recovery period.
The Coral Coast 7s is set to take place at Lawaqa Park from January 16 to 18, offering fans a thrilling rugby experience and showcasing promising talents on a significant stage.
This event not only highlights Fiji’s rich rugby culture but also serves as a pivotal moment for players looking to make their mark in the sport as they compete alongside experienced international stars. It is a reminder of the continuous development of rugby talent and the opportunities these tournaments create for athletes to shine.
