Fiji Airways men’s 7s halfback Pilipo Bukayaro has rebutted suggestions that fatigue contributed to their underwhelming performance at the recent Perth 7s tournament. He clarified that the team was well-rested and had adequately focused on recovery leading up to the event.

“Most people say that we were fatigued, but no, the only fatigue we have is from training here,” Bukayaro stated, emphasizing that their approach before the tournament was centered around rest and recovery rather than strenuous activity. He highlighted that despite their rigorous training sessions prior to travel, the team’s focus shifted to proper recovery techniques once they arrived at the venue.

Despite their careful preparation and physical condition, the Fiji team fell short of their goals in Perth. Bukayaro pointed to flaws in their gameplay like decision-making and discipline, rather than exhaustion, as the main issues that hampered their performance. He remarked, “We trust in the process of our training, now we are working on some little things we did not showcase on the field like our careless passing.”

With the Vancouver 7s tournament approaching, Bukayaro is resolute that Fiji can learn from their recent mistakes and aims to maintain their lead in the HSBC Sevens Series. “Our target to win the series still remains despite our results in the last tournament,” he affirmed.

The team is keen to address the technical areas needing improvement, striving for a stronger showing in Vancouver next weekend. This dedication to refinement and learning underscores the resilience of the Fiji men’s 7s team, suggesting a positive outlook as they aim for redemption.

In summary, Fiji’s commitment to enhancing their gameplay while remaining focused on their overarching goal of winning the series reflects the team’s enduring spirit. This focus on improvement and skill development provides hope for fans as they prepare for the next challenge in Vancouver.
