The Fiji Airways men’s rugby 7s team will be finalized for the HSBC Perth 7s tournament next weekend, following the conclusion of the Coral Coast 7s tournament in Sigatoka. Head coach Osea Kolinisau emphasized during a training session that no player currently has an assured spot on the team, stating, “Everybody is up for selection,” including players competing with Mike Friday’s team.

Kolinisau highlighted the importance of fitness and specific performance factors as he prepares the squad for the Perth tournament. He noted that improvement in defense, particularly in the final moments of matches, is crucial. Effective communication, spacing, and decision-making in crucial situations will also be key areas of focus. “When we are tired, we need to make sure that our process remains the same,” Kolinisau added, underlining the necessity of adhering to established standards.

Players representing Mike Friday’s team include Lasaro Bogisa, Manueli Maisamoa, Iowane Teba, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Pilipo Bukayaro, Rauto Vakadranu, Ilikimi Torosi, and Jerry Tuwai. These athletes, alongside others, will compete for spots on the Fiji 7s team.

Fiji is set to compete in pool MA alongside notable teams such as New Zealand 7s, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers. The upcoming Coral Coast 7s tournament will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park.

The anticipation surrounding the selection adds an exciting element to the Coral Coast 7s, as each player strives to showcase their skills and secure their place in the prestigious team for the upcoming tournament. It’s an opportunity for both established and emerging players to leave their mark, fostering a competitive and spirited atmosphere as they aim to elevate Fiji’s rugby 7s prowess on the international stage.
