Fiji Airways Fiji 7s assistant coach Vilame Satala will lead the men’s rugby team at the Oceania Sevens tournament scheduled for this weekend in Honiara, Solomon Islands. With a solid four weeks of training behind them, the team is eager to compete in this prestigious event.
Satala’s squad features five debutants, including Lasaro Bogisa, Iosefo Namoce, and Alipate Nabiu. Namoce, who has been impressive at center for Suva during the Skipper Cup competition this year, is among the fresh faces eager to make an impact.
The team blends experienced players who have participated in the HSBC series and Pacific Games with the new talent. “The experienced players will lead from the front in a big tournament like the Oceania. We need the experienced players,” emphasized Satala, referencing key players Kavekini Kabu, Timoci Na-kausa, and Manueli Maisamoa.
This edition of the Oceania tournament marks a significant occasion as it will be held in the Solomon Islands for the first time, taking place on December 7-8. The event will feature a total of 15 men’s teams and nine women’s teams, culminating in 58 thrilling matches over the two days. Notably, this tournament will also welcome Niue and Kiribati as newcomers in the women’s division, highlighting the growth and inclusivity within the rugby community.
The anticipation surrounding the tournament not only showcases veteran talent but also emphasizes the potential of emerging players, making it a promising event for rugby enthusiasts.
Overall, the Oceania Sevens promises to be an exciting showcase of skill, determination, and the spirit of competition, uniting teams from across the region.
