Fiji Airways Fiji 7s assistant coach Vilame Satala is set to lead the men’s team at the Oceania Sevens, taking place this weekend in Honiara, Solomon Islands. With four weeks of preparation behind them, Satala expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament.

The team includes five debutants: Lasaro Bogisa, Iosefo Namoce, and Alipate Nabiu, with Namoce having showcased his skills as a centre for Suva in this year’s Skipper Cup competition. Satala noted that the squad features a blend of experienced players who have competed in the HSBC series, Pacific Games, and other significant events.

The inclusion of seasoned players like Kavekini Kabu, Timoci Nakusa, and Manueli Maisamoa is crucial, as Satala emphasized their leadership and experience in navigating a tournament of this magnitude.

This weekend marks the first time the Solomon Islands will host the Oceania tournament, scheduled for December 7-8, with participation from 15 men’s and nine women’s teams, resulting in a total of 58 matches over two days. The event promises to be an exciting showcase of both established rugby powers and emerging talents, highlighted by the debut of Niue and Kiribati’s women’s teams.

Overall, this tournament not only provides an opportunity for Fiji’s rising stars to shine but also for the Solomons to demonstrate their growing involvement in the rugby community, making it a significant occasion for all participants.

The inclusion of new teams and the competitive spirit expected over the weekend certainly adds to the excitement, hinting at a bright future for rugby in the region.
