Sevuloni Mocenacagi stands out as the sole survivor from the Fiji 7s team that last celebrated victory at the Cape Town 7s six years ago. He notably scored a try in the final match against the USA, which Fiji won 29-15, under the guidance of then-coach Gareth Baber.
The current team features captain Jeremaia Matana and experienced players such as Pilipo Bukayaro, Terio Veilawa, Filipe Sauturaga, Vuiviwa Naduvalo, and Iokimi Vunaki. Notably, this squad, coached by Ben Gollings, secured a bronze medal last year after a hard-fought victory over Ireland, winning 14-7.
Looking ahead, the Fiji 7s team is eager to capitalize on their recent success at the Dubai 7s and aims for another remarkable performance in the upcoming tournament.
It’s exciting to see the legacy of past victories continue to inspire current players, and with Mocenacagi’s experience and the team’s recent form, there’s hope for another successful campaign. The resilience and talent within the squad suggest they could bring home further accolades in the near future.
