The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team remains resolute in their pursuit of success as the HSBC Sevens World Series (SVNS) progresses. Despite finishing in third place at both the Dubai and Cape Town legs in November and December, the team’s determination has not waned.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau expressed confidence in the squad’s abilities, emphasizing that they are close to achieving their goals. “Our determination hasn’t changed. I think we are not far off,” he stated. Notably, Fiji faced tough competition, narrowly losing in the semi-finals at both tournaments. In Dubai, they lost to New Zealand by a close score of 21-24, but rebounded with a convincing 24-7 victory against France to secure third place. Similarly, in Cape Town, they fell to Argentina, 21-29, before bouncing back with a 26-19 win over France to claim another third-place finish.

Kolinisau acknowledged the challenges presented by these losses but noted that the team remains focused on their ultimate goal of winning the series. “We go to every tournament wanting to win. I know the boys don’t go into a tournament not intending to finish in third place,” he remarked. He highlighted the need for improvement in areas such as tackling and discipline, which the team is actively addressing in preparation for upcoming matches.

Looking ahead, the Fiji men’s 7s team is set to compete in the Singapore 7s, scheduled for January 31 to February 1. With a positive mindset and a commitment to learning from past mistakes, the team continues to aim high and strive for excellence in the remainder of the series.
