Fiji’s 7s Head Coach, Osea Kolinisau, is focused on ensuring his team excels on the international stage as they prepare for the upcoming HSBC SVNS Series. After a successful gold medal performance at the Dubai 7s, the team faced challenges in the Cape Town tournament where they ultimately settled for bronze. Kolinisau noted that the team’s focus waned towards the end of the second tournament, which impacted their performance in the final moments.
He emphasized the necessity of maintaining strong processes, even when fatigue sets in. “In Cape Town, for the last 30 seconds our processes broke down,” he explained, highlighting communication issues and spacing that arose when the team was under pressure. Kolinisau is optimistic about their training, acknowledging that while the team is working to regain their rhythm, they have made a strong start.
“The team was a bit rusty upon returning to the field,” Kolinisau remarked, “but our aim is to refocus on our processes.” With the Coral Coast Sevens on the horizon next week, the team is committed to improving before heading to Perth for the next leg of the SVNS Series from January 24-26.
This period of preparation presents a chance for the Fiji 7s team to refine their skills and strategies. With the dedication shown by Kolinisau and his players, fans can look forward to an exciting year ahead as they aim to reclaim their standing among the world’s elite teams. The team’s resilience and focus could potentially lead to greater accomplishments in the upcoming tournaments.
