Fiji Airways national sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau is optimistic about his team’s prospects in the upcoming HSBC SVNS 2024/2025 series, particularly the first legs in Dubai and Cape Town. His confidence comes on the heels of the Fiji Airways Fiji Blue team’s victory over Taikita Brothers in the Cup final of the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s, which concluded yesterday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Kolinisau emphasized the team’s unwavering aim to clinch victory in every tournament they participate in, and he believes that with the current group of players, they have a solid chance of achieving their goals. “Our objective is to win the series, and we want to ensure we finish on top,” he stated, reflecting his faith in the players and the effort they have dedicated throughout the season.

He also pointed out that the competition for selection in the national team remains fierce, underscoring the wealth of talent present in Fiji rugby. Kolinisau remarked, “We are talking about Fiji here, and there is always talent that will emerge from unexpected sources.” He made it clear that no player is guaranteed a position on the team, keeping the competitive spirit alive.

The squad for the first leg of the series is expected to be officially announced later today on the Fiji Rugby 7s page. However, Kolinisau noted that players Joseva Talacolo and Waisea Nacuqu will not be considered for selection due to minor injuries.

Historically, the Fiji men’s sevens side last brought home the HSBC SVNS series title in 2019, defeating New Zealand in the final at the Paris 7s. They have achieved a total of four series titles and have won the Dubai 7s tournament twice, with their last victory dating back to 2015.

The Fiji 7s team’s drive and determination certainly shine through, giving fans plenty to look forward to as they aim for success in the upcoming series.
