Fiji’s 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau is focused on elevating his team’s performance on the global stage as they gear up for the restart of the HSBC SVNS Series. Following a commendable gold medal win at the Dubai 7s, the team faced a setback in Cape Town where they secured only a bronze. Kolinisau noted that the team lost concentration in the crucial final moments of the second tournament, which impacted their overall performance.
He expressed the need to refine their processes and maintain communication even when fatigue sets in. “In Cape Town, for the last 30 seconds our processes broke down,” Kolinisau said, emphasizing the importance of sticking to their game plan and spacing.
With the new season starting, Kolinisau is optimistic about getting back on the field, though he acknowledged that the players are a bit out of practice and not yet fully engaged in intense contact training. The recent training sessions have focused on reestablishing their core processes.
Looking ahead, the team is preparing for the Coral Coast Sevens next week, followed by a key stop in Perth from January 24-26 for the SVNS Series. As they fine-tune their strategies and regain their footing, there is genuine hope among the players and coaches that they can achieve better results in the upcoming tournaments.
In summary, Fiji’s 7s team is working diligently to overcome recent challenges with a clear focus on improving their gameplay and communication strategies. The upcoming competitions present a perfect opportunity for them to showcase their skills and determination as they strive for success.
