Fiji’s 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau is committed to ensuring that his team achieves a strong performance on the global stage as they prepare for the revival of the HSBC SVNS Series. After a successful stint that saw the Fiji 7s team clinch a gold medal at the Dubai 7s, they settled for a bronze medal in Cape Town. Kolinisau acknowledged that their focus waned towards the conclusion of the second tournament.
He emphasized the need for the players to maintain their processes, even when fatigued. Notably, in the last 30 seconds of the Cape Town tournament, the team’s communication faltered, and their spacing became inadequate—issues that Kolinisau is keen to address.
As the team gears up for their initial training session of the year, Kolinisau is optimistic despite acknowledging their current rustiness, with the focus being on re-establishing effective processes rather than full-contact practice.
Looking ahead, the team is preparing for the Coral Coast Sevens next week and is setting its sights on the upcoming SVNS Series stop in Perth, scheduled for January 24-26.
In summary, Coach Kolinisau’s proactive approach to refining his team’s dynamics and communication can serve to enhance their performance in future competitions. His emphasis on teamwork and resilience, particularly when under pressure, provides a hopeful outlook for the Fiji 7s team as they continue their journey in the series.
