Apete Narogo, a promising 23-year-old rugby player from Nakorovou, Serua, has secured a place in the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s extended squad in preparation for the upcoming HSBC SVNS Dubai 7s. This opportunity reflects Narogo’s dedication and passion for the sport.
Joining him in the extended squad are Alivereti Nainoca and Nacani Boginisoko, both of whom share the ambition to earn a spot in the final roster for the Dubai tournament. Narogo’s rugby journey began after completing his studies in form 7 at Lomary Secondary School, where he initially faced challenges but found his passion in the sport. He played for Dominion Brothers and Devo Babas, where he honed his skills and embraced the competitive environment.
“It was a blessing from God to be called up to join the Fiji 7s extended squad. Every Fijian boy dreams of wearing the white jersey to represent our country, and this is a blessed opportunity for me,” Narogo expressed. His commitment was highlighted by his early choice to prioritize rugby over schooling, often missing school to participate in competitions. Despite these challenges, he believes that his hard work has finally paid off, allowing him to be part of the national setup.
Narogo also reflects on his experiences in the Fiji Bitter 7s series, which equipped him with crucial skills that have aided his development as a player. The Dubai 7s, scheduled from November 29 to December 1, represents a significant moment not only for him but for the entire Fiji 7s team as they aim to showcase their talents on an international stage.
The selection of athletes like Narogo demonstrates the depth of talent within Fiji’s rugby framework. It also serves as an inspiration to many aspiring players, reminding them that with hard work and determination, dreams of representing their country can become a reality. This hopeful narrative resonates with the shared experiences of young athletes across Fiji, who are continually striving for excellence in rugby.
