Fiji’s national rugby team faces challenges as coach Osea Kolinisau announced that Tira Wilagi has sustained a knee injury and Joseva Talacolo has suffered a concussion, both players will miss the remainder of the tournament. Despite these setbacks, the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team concluded day one on a positive note, emerging at the top of Pool A with three consecutive victories.

The team is poised to compete against New Zealand today at 4:57 PM in the semi-finals of the Perth 7s, while Australia will take on South Africa in the other semi-final match scheduled for 5:19 PM. Coach Kolinisau expressed pride in the team’s resilience, especially in challenging situations where they needed to mount comebacks during their matches.

Kolinisau conveyed gratitude, thanking God for the team’s successful start. He remarked, “We didn’t expect to come from behind, but we addressed our weaknesses at half-time.” However, he also indicated that improvements are essential as they move into the knockout phase of the tournament. “We still need to work on missed tackles and yellow cards, and remain resilient,” he noted, highlighting the team’s focus on enhancing their performance.

The team’s ability to adapt and grow through adversity is commendable, and their strong start sets a hopeful tone as they head into the semi-finals, showcasing their determination to compete at a high level.
