Fiji Airways men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has emphasized the need for his team to avoid relying on comeback performances during their upcoming matches in Perth. After a hard-fought victory at the Singapore 7s, where Fiji found themselves needing to chase down opponents in the pool match, semifinal, and final, Kolinisau acknowledged that while their resilience is commendable, it is not a strategy they wish to repeat.

“The resilience we showed was admirable, but we cannot plan on playing catch-up rugby,” Kolinisau stated, highlighting the importance of addressing this issue immediately after their victory in Singapore and during their initial team meeting in Perth. He conveyed a clear message to his players: starting strong and maintaining control from the outset is essential.

“We want to make sure that we start ahead in all aspects, and when we take the lead, we will strive to maintain it until the final whistle,” he explained. With other teams likely to target Fiji early in the competition, securing a strong start is seen as crucial to alleviating any unnecessary pressure as the matches progress.

The Fiji men’s 7s team will kick off their Perth 7s campaign with a match against Argentina at 4:20 PM, followed by a game against Spain at 7:36 PM, and concluding their pool round against South Africa at 10:52 PM. Fans can catch all the action live on FBC TV.

As Fiji heads into this tournament with a commitment to improving their performance, the anticipation builds among supporters, eager to see a more consistent start from their team.
