Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has reported that the team is adapting well to their surroundings in Vancouver as they prepare for the upcoming leg of the HSBC SVNS Series this weekend. The national team arrived in Canada on Saturday, focusing on acclimating to the colder climate while maintaining a rigorous training regimen.
Kolinisau mentioned that adjustments to the weather were essential for the team’s performance. “We arrived on Saturday and it was a bit cold for us. It was nice weather we said, but it was still a bit cold for us, so we tried to get the boys acclimatized really well,” he said. The team began their preparations with a light recovery session upon arrival, followed by a gradual increase in training intensity.
To help the players get used to their new environment, Kolinisau structured the week’s training to enhance their acclimatization. He noted that Monday involved a double session, incorporating both gym workouts and rugby practice. “No injuries, the boys are acclimatizing really well and looking forward to the weekend,” he added.
The Vancouver 7s tournament kicks off this weekend, with Fiji’s first match scheduled against France at 7:19 AM on Sunday morning. This will be followed by a game against Argentina at 11:07 AM, before concluding the first day of competition against Australia at 2:56 PM. Fans can catch all the action live on FBC TV.
The team’s successful adjustment to their new environment and the absence of injuries bode well for their performance in the tournament, reflecting a positive outlook as they embark on their campaign in Vancouver.
