Members of the deposed 2006 Parliament are set to convene this weekend with former speaker Pita Nacuva. The gathering, organized by Mr. Nacuva’s team, will include former members and senators of the House of Representatives that once operated from the old Veiuto Parliament in Suva.
Mr. Nacuva noted that the members only served six months before being ousted from Parliament on December 6, 2006. Even though nearly two decades have passed, he emphasizes the importance of recognizing their constitutional roles during that time.
This event aims not only to acknowledge the contributions of the former members but also to provide a sense of closure to the tarnished legacy of the 2006 Parliament. Mr. Nacuva hopes it will formally dissolve the perception of the past and pave the way for a more progressive political future.
