Former Australian football star Luke Wilkshire will serve as the chief guest at the Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards Night, set to take place on December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. The Fiji Football Association’s CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed enthusiasm about Wilkshire’s attendance, emphasizing the significance of having a FIFA Legend featured at this event.
Wilkshire, who has had a distinguished international career, is expected to motivate and inspire Fiji’s football community. During his visit, he will participate in the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and tour the Fiji Ba Academy, creating opportunities for interaction with fans and aspiring players alike.
This year’s Fiji FA Awards Night marks a return after a three-year break and will honor the finest in Fiji football. A total of 16 awards will be presented, recognizing the achievements of players, teams, officials, and contributors to the sport.
Wilkshire’s impressive career includes playing for clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he clinched the A-League title in the 2017-2018 season. His international accomplishments with the Socceroos include earning 80 caps and scoring 8 goals, as well as participating in two FIFA World Cups and winning the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Since retiring from professional play, Wilkshire has successfully transitioned into coaching, maintaining his status as a well-respected figure in Australian football, known for his exceptional passing skills, tactical knowledge, and leadership qualities.
