Former Australian soccer player Luke Wilkshire will serve as the chief guest at the Extra Supermarket Fiji Football Association (FA) Awards Night on December 1, to be held at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi.
Fiji FA Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Yusuf expressed his enthusiasm for Wilkshire’s involvement, highlighting the significance of having a FIFA Legend at the event. Wilkshire’s impressive career and contributions to Australian football are anticipated to motivate Fiji’s football community.
During his visit, Wilkshire will attend matches of the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup at Churchill Park in Lautoka and will visit the Fiji Ba Academy. His participation is expected to have a profound impact on local football enthusiasts and aspiring athletes.
The Fiji FA Awards Night returns after a three-year break, celebrating the achievements of Fiji football with 16 awards to honor players, teams, officials, and contributors to the sport.
Wilkshire enjoyed a robust career with teams such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he clinched the A-League title in the 2017–2018 season. He represented Australia in 80 international matches, scoring eight goals, and participated in two FIFA World Cups (2006 and 2010), the victorious 2015 AFC Asian Cup team, and the 2004 Athens Olympics.
After retiring, he transitioned into coaching and has solidified his reputation as a respected authority in Australian football, known for his exceptional passing skills, tactical acumen, and leadership.
