Former Australian international Luke Wilkshire will be the guest of honor at the Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards Night, scheduled for December 1 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. Fiji Football Association CEO, Mohammed Yusuf, expressed his enthusiasm for Wilkshire’s involvement, highlighting the significance of having a FIFA Legend at the event.
Wilkshire’s impactful international career and contributions to football in Australia are anticipated to serve as an inspiration for the football community in Fiji. He is set to participate in the Flick Hygiene Pacific Cup matches at Churchill Park in Lautoka and visit the Fiji Ba Academy during his stay, which is likely to motivate local enthusiasts and budding players.
The Fiji FA Awards Night, which is making a return after a three-year break, aims to honor the best in Fijian football with 16 awards celebrating outstanding players, teams, officials, and contributors.
Throughout his playing career, Wilkshire showcased his talent at clubs such as Middlesbrough, Bristol City, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Feyenoord, and Sydney FC, where he captured the A-League title in the 2017-2018 season. With 80 caps for the Socceroos and eight goals, he played in two FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010), was part of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup-winning squad, and represented Australia at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
