The Fiji Airways men’s 7s squad is experiencing intense competition as selection for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament remains open. Winger Vuiviawa Naduvalo highlighted the eagerness and determination of the players as they prepare for the next leg of the World Sevens Series, which is just weeks away.
Training resumed on Monday, and every player is making a concentrated effort to impress head coach Osea Kolinisau. “Every spot in the team is still available. Competition among the players is healthy, even fierce when it comes to training, but we are enjoying every moment,” Naduvalo shared.
This competitive spirit will be particularly prominent at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament next weekend, where Kolinisau will finalize the team. “There are about three to four players vying for each spot. Everyone wants to be selected, but it will depend on our coaches. It will also depend on what we show during training, during our games, and most of all our fitness,” said Naduvalo.
Fans can look forward to seeing players deliver impressive performances in Sigatoka. Naduvalo also noted the discipline exhibited by the team during their recent two-week break, indicating that none of the players overindulged in celebrations and maintained their focus on representing Fiji. “Intensity in training continues to grow, and the demand for us to meet it increases as well,” he emphasized.
As a newlywed, Naduvalo is competing for the wing position against fellow players Joji Nasova, Manueli Maisamoa, and Jope Tikomailepanoni. He is part of a squad that previously claimed the Dubai 7s title and secured third place in Cape Town in the series’ opening leg in December, notably scoring the critical match-winning try against France in a tense 19-17 quarter-final.
In conclusion, the upcoming weeks will showcase the dedication and skill of the Fiji men’s 7s team as they strive for spots on the roster, maintaining a positive atmosphere of healthy competition. With commitment and teamwork, the players are aiming to excel on the international stage and bring honor to Fiji.
