FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali is set to lead the Commission following a recent inquiry. In an official announcement, FICAC confirmed that Ms. Malimali reported for duty this morning after being questioned by investigators yesterday.
The statement emphasized that Ms. Malimali, a seasoned criminal lawyer, was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere based on the recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Office of the Attorney-General. Her term commenced on September 5, 2024, and will last for three years.
Notably, Ms. Malimali is the first female to hold the Commissioner position after the resignation of her predecessor, Rashmi Aslam, in September 2023. The former chair of the Electoral Commission also addressed the circumstances surrounding her questioning, affirming that she would not allow the recent events to hinder her responsibilities under the law.
