Barbara Malimali has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). Her appointment has been confirmed by FICAC and was made through the Judicial Services Commission, receiving final approval from the President.
According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is selected by the President based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission, which must also consult with the Attorney-General.
In a separate development, FICAC reported that a raid was conducted at the Election Commission yesterday, during which documents pertinent to the investigation of Chairperson Barbara Malimali were confiscated. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
