The Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Barbara Malimali, emphasized the Commission’s pivotal role in upholding justice in the fight against corruption. Speaking during a Fiji Day celebration at FICAC’s headquarters in Suva, Malimali highlighted this year’s theme, ‘To heal and hope,’ which she believes reflects Fiji’s multicultural unity and tolerance.
As Fijians across the country and abroad celebrate, Malimali noted the sense of pride that comes with reflecting on the achievements and resilience that have shaped modern Fiji. She mentioned that civil servants are actively participating in community clean-up efforts across major centers.
While FICAC staff may not be engaged in physical cleaning, their mission to eliminate corruption is equally vital. Malimali acknowledged the challenges Fiji has faced, including political, natural, and social upheavals, but emphasized the nation’s resilience and commitment to positivity.
She praised her team for their dedication to fostering transparency and accountability, urging them to elevate their efforts further to meet the expectations of the Fijian people. Malimali reminded her staff that with the resources available to them, they are accountable to fulfill their responsibilities effectively, encouraging unity and perseverance in their mission to ensure justice in Fiji.
