The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is enhancing its approach to fighting corruption by emphasizing public education and awareness initiatives. Commissioner Barbara Malimali highlighted the importance of empowering citizens to identify and report corrupt practices, which helps cultivate a culture rooted in integrity and accountability.

FICAC has strengthened its partnerships with government entities, civil society organizations, and international partners to bolster their collaborative efforts in this critical battle against corruption. Despite facing significant criticisms in the previous year, which led to public doubt and negative comments on social media targeted at their dedicated staff, FICAC remains determined. Malimali stated, “We have remained steadfast, our compass fixed on the true cause of our mandate.”

Although challenges persist, FICAC is committed to its mandate of eradicating corruption, underlining the principles of ethical governance, transparency, and accountability. The agency continues to actively dispatch its officers to investigate and prosecute those involved in corrupt practices, sending a clear message that such behaviors will not be tolerated.

Looking toward 2025, FICAC is focused on a mission to ensure a corruption-free Fiji. The organization plans to invest in its workforce, utilize technology, and refine its strategies to tackle emerging challenges effectively. Malimali encourages citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

She expressed gratitude for the trust and continued support from the Fijian people, emphasizing that together, they can create a brighter future for the nation, characterized by strong governance and free from corruption.

This commitment to transparency and public involvement is a positive step forward for Fiji, as it aims to strengthen institutional integrity and restore confidence in governance.
