The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has enhanced its strategic initiatives to combat corruption, with an emphasis on public education and awareness. Commissioner Barbara Malimali stated that by empowering citizens to identify and report corrupt practices, they are nurturing a culture of integrity and accountability in society.

Malimali emphasized the importance of partnerships, revealing that FICAC has strengthened collaborations with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners to bolster their collective efforts in fighting corruption. Despite facing significant criticism last year, which led to social media bullying against their staff, FICAC has remained unwavering in its commitment to its mission.

“Regardless of the challenges, we have pressed on, maintaining our focus on our core mandate,” she noted. FICAC continues to assert its dedication to eradicating corruption and upholding the values of ethical governance, transparency, and accountability. The organization has devoted its resources to investigating, prosecuting, and convicting those involved in corrupt activities, sending a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated.

Looking forward to 2025, FICAC is committed to building a corruption-free Fiji. The organization plans to invest in its workforce, embrace technological advancements, and refine its strategies to effectively tackle emerging challenges. Malimali urged all citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, expressing gratitude for the ongoing support and trust from the Fijian people. Together, she believes they can forge a brighter, corruption-free future characterized by good governance.

This proactive stance by FICAC not only enhances the fight against corruption but also empowers citizens to play an active role in governance. By fostering a collective effort against corruption, Fiji moves closer to a brighter future rooted in integrity and accountability.
