The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is enhancing its strategic efforts to tackle corruption, with a strong emphasis on public education and awareness initiatives. Commissioner Barbara Malimali highlighted the importance of empowering citizens to identify and report corrupt practices, which aims to cultivate a culture rooted in integrity and accountability.

FICAC is strengthening collaboration with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners, enhancing joint efforts in their fight against corruption. Malimali acknowledged that the commission faced significant criticism last year, causing doubts about its processes and subjecting staff to bullying on social media. Despite these challenges, she affirmed their unwavering commitment to their mission.

Malimali remarked, “We have remained steadfast, our compass fixed on the true cause of our mandate.” The commission continues to emphasize the eradication of corruption, advocating for ethical governance, transparency, and accountability.

FICAC has dedicated its officers to investigating and prosecuting corrupt activities, sending a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated. Looking ahead to 2025, the commission is committed to creating a corruption-free Fiji by investing in its workforce, utilizing technology, and refining strategies to address emerging challenges.

Malimali urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. She concluded by expressing gratitude for the ongoing support from the Fijian people, emphasizing that together they can construct a brighter future, free from corruption and characterized by good governance.

This proactive stance by FICAC not only showcases their resilience but also highlights a collective commitment to a transparent and accountable governance system, which is vital for the progress and integrity of the nation. The focus on education and public involvement signifies a promising step towards eradicating corruption.
