Police are currently investigating a break-in at the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) storage warehouse located on Carpenters Street in Raiwai. Acting Commissioner Lavi Rokoika has assured the public that no official files, documents, or sensitive materials were taken during the incident, which she characterized as a non-operational storage facility.

Rokoika stated, “The incident has been formally reported to the Fiji Police Force, and FICAC is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.” She emphasized that any suggestion to the contrary is misleading and irresponsible.

FICAC remains committed to the security and integrity of its operations. A spokesperson from the police, Ana Naisoro, confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding the matter.

This new incident echoes concerns raised during a previous break-in at FICAC’s headquarters two months ago. During that event, similar assurances were provided that no sensitive files, including those related to high-profile figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad, were compromised. FICAC’s proactive communication both times highlights its commitment to transparency and the importance of safeguarding sensitive information.

Moreover, FICAC has consistently urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation, emphasizing the potential legal consequences of defamation on social media. These measures not only serve to protect the integrity of FICAC’s work but also foster a culture of responsible communication within the community.

This recent break-in, while concerning, reinforces the necessity of robust security measures and accountability in public institutions, which ultimately contributes to maintaining public trust in governance. FICAC’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its operations is a positive indication of its ongoing efforts to combat corruption effectively in Fiji.
