Francis Puleiwai has resigned from her position as Acting Deputy Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), effective immediately, following a meeting with the Judicial Services Commission. In her statements to the media, Puleiwai expressed her inability to continue working at FICAC in the current environment. She had only been in her role since December of last year.
Her resignation comes in the wake of her actions against newly appointed FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, who was questioned on allegations of abuse of office. Malimali underwent questioning and was released around midday yesterday, accompanied by her lawyers. When approached by reporters, Malimali chose not to comment on the situation.
