Francis Puleiwai has resigned from her position as Acting Deputy Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) following a meeting with the Judicial Services Commission. Her resignation is effective immediately. Puleiwai cited her inability to continue working in the current environment at FICAC. She was appointed to her role in December of the previous year.
Her decision comes on the heels of actions she took against the newly appointed FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, who was questioned regarding allegations of abuse of office. Malimali was released after being held for questioning, and her lawyers were present during the process. When asked about the situation, Malimali declined to comment.
