Francis Puleiwai, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), has resigned following a meeting with the Judicial Services Commission. She announced that her resignation is effective immediately, citing an inability to work within the current environment at FICAC.
Puleiwai was appointed to her role in December. Her resignation follows a controversial incident in which she took action against the newly appointed FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali, leading to Malimali being questioned regarding allegations of abuse of office.
Malimali was interrogated and subsequently released around midday yesterday, with her legal representatives present. When approached by the media for comments, Malimali chose not to provide any statements at this time.
